Managing passwords can be overwhelming

I’ve been using 1Password for over a year and have had zero complaints. I use it to store business passwords as well as personal passwords. With countless clients sharing logins for things like GoDaddy accounts and email accounts and more, we need an extremely secure place to store them. 1Password provides that for us. We can also have it set up so that multiple users can login with a series of passwords to access the data.

While 1Password excels in safeguarding individual passwords, there are instances where sharing passwords securely becomes necessary, such as granting access to team members or family members. This is where password.link steps in. Password.link is a simple yet powerful solution for sharing passwords without compromising security. Passwords are encrypted and only a link is sent to the user. 

  1. Temporary Access: Instead of sharing passwords indefinitely, password.link allows you to set an expiration date for access, ensuring that shared credentials are only accessible for a limited time.
  2. Encrypted Sharing: All passwords shared via password.link are encrypted, reducing the risk of interception or unauthorized access.
  3. Customizable Access Controls: Maintain control over who can access shared passwords by setting specific permissions and restrictions.
  4. Auditing Capabilities: Keep track of who has accessed shared passwords and when, providing accountability and oversight.

Best Practices for Password Management

In addition to leveraging password management tools like 1Password and password.link, it’s essential to adhere to best practices to fortify your digital defenses:

  1. Frequent Password Changes: Regularly update your passwords to minimize the risk of unauthorized access. Aim to change them at least every three to six months.
  2. Complexity is Key: Create passwords that are at least 12 characters long and include a mix of uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and special characters.
  3. Avoid Password Reuse: Resist the temptation to reuse passwords across multiple accounts. Each account should have a unique and distinct password to prevent a single breach from compromising multiple accounts.

When you’re setting a new password, I know it’s tempting to use your childrens or pets name. While this is a popular approach, there are security issues galore with this. Odds are you’ve mentioned their names on social media and for sure to family and friends – family and friends who are far too often the ones hacking accounts… So to take security seriously and to the next level avoid any common phrases or names. And if you do use a common name, be sure to mix in plenty of extra symbols and numbers to help make it unique.
